Buster Machines are super-powerful weapons, generally mecha, which have major roles in both Gunbuster and Diebuster. In Top o Nerae! 2: Diebuster, Buster Machines are depicted as sentient and have their own free will, typically only obeying commands from Topless and sometimes refusing to obey regardless, such as in the case of Dix-Neuf. There is no evidence in Top o Nerae! Gunbuster to indicate that Gunbuster is sentient or that Noriko Takaya is Topless.
